Akita - Juneau - Large - Adult - Female - Dog
Juneau is a 75-pound, spayed, brown, gray, and white husky-akita mix with light blue eyes. She is in excellent health and is up to date on her shots/annual check up and she is microchipped. Juneau is very energetic and likes playing or running. She is a good running companion and has happily accompanied me on 5k runs, though she requires a leash and a muzzle. She loves snow and cold weather. Juneau is a cuddler. She will lounge around with you on your sofa and your bed if given the chance. Fortunately, she will follow the rules and stay off the furniture if you require it. She is even intelligent enough to only come on the sofa or bed if invited and stay off when not. She is well-behaved inside the house and will generally follow rules, i.e., if you teach her not to climb up on the furniture she’ll generally stay off it. She is fairly intelligent and can learn tricks and commands. She does not beg and she does not eat people food on plates left out. She does not chew, scratch, dig, or act in any other destructive way. She also does not violate boundaries -- she can jump 6-8 feet in the air, but won't even knock over or jump over a baby gate. She is also not an insistent barker/howler. She has been well trained and with the right amount of command in your tone, she will obey almost every time. Unfortunately, Juneau is extremely aggressive around other dogs. She doesn’t seem to take much notice of large non-canines (once found her chewing a frisbee under an eating moose), but other dogs are not safe around her. This is true regardless of the weight and sex of the other dog, though she tends to be worse with other females. She should never be let off leash or out of her muzzle around other dogs, as she has seriously injured several dogs whose owners let them off leash. Luckily, she won't make much efforts to get to other dogs (she won't jump, dig under, or eat through a fence to get to another dog) and won't go beserk even when one is right next to her on the other side of a fence, but if another dog is off leash and approaches her, she will feel threatened and attack. She does not give any warning when she is about to attack. Juneau does not show any aggression toward people, child or adult, male or female. But she has twice bit an 18 month old in the face when the toddler ran by her. She did not throttle the toddler, but did break skin. Although her behavior will seem fine, even tolerant, with a toddler, she should not be left alone with one and should not live in a home that has toddlers in it often.
